The MIKKO HILDEN GROUP was formed in 2009 in Toronto, while attending Humber College. Mikko was currently playing in Nancy Walker’s Quartet, which led to the collaboration members, Nancy Walker and Kieran Overs with fellow student Will Fisher for Hilden’s recording project. Later that year, Hilden received the ‘Humber Studio Award,’ which led to the completion of his debut album, Nova Scotia (Addo Records). The album was released to a full house at Toronto’s Rex Hotel on January 9th, 2011. The group has since gone on to perform regularly around Toronto to rave reviews.
MIKKO HILDÉN has worked as a guitarist in Stockholm, Sweden for more than 10 years. He has recorded with many Swedish artists. In 2006 Hildén decided to go back to school and attend Humber College in Toronto, Canada, where he currently resides. Hildén performs regularly in the Toronto area and has played with Nancy Walker Quartet, Bernie Senensky and Mike Downes among others.
KIERAN OVERS has been active on the Canadian music scene since 1970, first on guitar and electric bass and for the past 30 years on acoustic bass. Working in Toronto as a sideman with such artists as Zoot Sims, Chet Baker, Sonny Fortune, Dewey Redman, Barry Harris, Kenny Barron, Bill Charlap, John Stetch, Brian Dickinson, Pat LaBarbera, Alex Dean, Kirk MacDonald, Nancy Walker, Lorne Lofsky, Ted Quinlan, and touring internationally with Moe Koffman, Dizzy Gillespie, and Jane Bunnett, he has established a solid reputation in Canadian jazz.
NANCY WALKER is the winner of the 2008 National Jazz Awards Keyboardist Of The Year Award and the 2003 Montréal International Jazz Festival’s prestigious Grand Prix de Jazz. Nancy has several discs as leader to her credit.
WILL FISHER, originally from Nova Scotia, has performed all over Canada and parts of the United States. He received his Bachelor of Applied Music in 2010 from Humber College. Upon finishing, Will received a full scholarship to the University of Louisville where he is currently a member of the Jamey Aebersold International Quintet and is working towards his Master of Music in Jazz Performance.
